Brighton to be Big Gay Wedding Capital

It's time to stop putting off popping the question. In anticipation of changes in legislation next year, Brighton is about to launch the UK's first ever Pink Wedding Waiting List. Same-sex couples in Brighton & Hove can now put their name on the list to tie the knot!

The Civil Partnership Bill received support from the House of Lords late in April which means that same-sex marriages could be given Her Majesty's blessing (bless'er) by early 2005 if the bill continues to win support from both houses. It may not be all plain sailing... Tory Baroness O'Cathain fights on in place of the late Baroness Young in order to uphold "Christian values" and continues to oppose equal rights for same-sex couples. She is, as she'll admit, in the minority.

Brighton is bidding to become the Big Gay Mother of all gay wedding cities, with the obvious choice of the camp Prince Regent's wedding-cake Pavilion being top of the list for marriage venues.

The list is being launched at a special event at the Brighton Town Hall on the 9th of July at high noon.
