Bourne Free 2008
Bournemouth Pride roars loud this July

Bourne Free 2008

Sunday, 8 June 2008

Forget deckchairs, ice creams and sand between your toes. This is going to be a weekend of Pride in your smiling face as Bournemouth gears up for the Bourne Free Pride Festival. Three days of gay pride beside the seaside – oh we do like to be – and boy does Bournemouth have some salty treats for you.

Bourne Free Pride Festival is a colourful celebration of all diversities that live in the area and the constant strive towards universal equality for all – through entertainment and awareness. Last year the event attracted thousands of people from across the UK, so for 2008 it has been extended across an entire weekend with more going on than ever before.

And the weekend’s proud menu? A jazz night kicks off proceedings on the Friday complete with jazz artists, picnicking with Pride and three hours of entertainment. Saturday will see events across the town including the Pride Parade with its "Support our Services" theme. Time to get dressed up as sexy doctors and nurses, hunky soldiers and sailors, and firemen! There will also be the trademark Bourne Free Show with performers, from singers and musicians to drag artists, comedy acts, information stalls to browse and those seven miles of sandy beach to get between your toes.

With the infamous Street Party following the show at The Triangle from 5pm through to 11pm and well the weekends looking good. Add Sunday’s proud festivities courtesy of a Caribbean Affair at local venues Jimmys, The Branksome and Bent and Bournemouth has never seemed so tempting. Bourne Free Pride Festival. Not a lion in sight, just lots of pride.
