Green finger action at the seaside
Tuesday, 8 July 2008
It’s Brighton's Chelsea, the city's Hampton Court, it’s the Garden Gadabout. And it’s green fingers are about to delve into your weekend schedule very soon as over forty private gardens open to the public for the The Sussex Beacon’s Garden Gadabout 2008.
No matter how you take your flora and fauna this garden peepshow is a must do as supporters of the Sussex Beacon show off their horticulture endeavours for your delight. From Hove to Seaford participating gardens are divided into six trails, designed to be accessible in a days visit. Each garden costs £1 donation to visit, tea and delicious homemade cakes are available to enjoy and some gardens will also offer plant sales and art exhibits. Visit www.sussexbeacon.org.uk/gadabout/index.htm for details of all the gardens participating this year and get route planning.
This year will also see the launch of the Give A Plant Appeal where you, the ever-generous gardener, are being asked to donate a plant to the Sussex Beacon’s garden. This will be the first time the Beacon’s garden’s will not be open for the Gadabout as plants and green fingered care are needed to bring it back to it’s Nick Wride designed and planted glory of the early 1990’s. But with your help and kindly donated plants the garden can will be part of the Gadabout in 2009 and continue to give pleasure to the beacon’s clients, friends and family. More details available at www.sussexbeacon.org.uk/gadabout/giveaplant.htm
As well as raising much needed funds for the beacon – one of only national care centre for people living with HIV in the UK, the Garden Gadabout is a great opportunity to take a nose in the back yards, veg filled paradises and evergreen escape pods of this fair city. Just remember to take a snail away with you as you leave.
