Dave Lynn's Cabaret Academy: Autumn 2008
Dave's unique academy for budding cabaret performers returns

Dave Lynn's Cabaret Academy: Autumn 2008

Tuesday, 15 July 2008

Returning this Autumn is the hugely successful Cabaret Academy, brought to you by one of the UK's favourite cabaret stars, Dave Lynn.

Many will remember Dave Lynn as the mentor in Channel Four's ground-breaking series 'Faking It' where Naval Officer, Spence Bowdler, became drag queen, Britney Ferry. The television show was a runaway success, picking up a number of significant awards.

Since the episode was aired in 2003, Dave has been inundated with requests to assist fledgling artists develop their acts and improve upon their stage craft and, in September 2007, Dave did just that. The Academy was a resounding success, resulting in a number of professional bookings for many of the students.

Lucky students will have the opportunity to work with Dave and a team of industry professionals over 10 weeks, developing their acts, helping with the whole look and style of each performer and provide vocal coaching, stage and sound techniques to help prepare the performer for professional bookings. Each act will also have the opportunity to rehearse and perform on a real stage as the course culminates in two showcase performances in November - one open to friends, family, industry and press, and the other to the public. These shows will be raising funds for The Sussex Beacon, of which Dave Lynn is a patron. Last year's shows raised over £400 for the charity.

The team of professionals on hand to lend their support includes Andrew Stark, the man behind cabaret characters Dolly Partem and Pat Cruise, radio and DJ personality Rupert Ellick, artist managers and PR professionals alongside one or two previous Academy graduates and some big names on the Cabaret circuit.

One again, the Academy will be held at Charles Street Club, a purpose-built cabaret venue with top quality sound, stage and lighting, where students will learn their craft and two showcase events will be staged.

The course fee is just £20 per session, with the course running over ten sessions beginning in September and running every Tuesday through until November. Open to all performers of all cabaret entertainment genres - drag queens, comedians, vocalists, magicians, ventriloquists, dancers, personality compères - anyone who wants to entertain in a cabaret environment!
