Heaven, one of the most well-established gay venues in the country, used Pride London as an excuse to launch their new VIP room.
The club is divided into five or six distinct areas connected by a labyrinth of catwalk stairs and walkways. Each room offers a different type of music - from hip-hop to rock. Tonight DJs like Nick Tcherniak, Gonzalo, Pagano and Oliver M played funky, tribal and electro house in the main arena. If you could tear yourself away from that then there's the opportunity to check out the new room next to the old Departure Lounge... a set of double doors opened on to a place known as "The Island" by the sfaff (will that be its new name when it opens we wonder?).
I'm not sure what's more noticable... the very impressive decor or the gigantic lamp hanging on the ceiling... incredible! Lots of exposed brick and jungle-themed leaves, stars and mirror walls (in the places where there was no exposed brick) that were perfectly blended in with the other decor. Lots of ceiling-fitted lights - red, yellow, blue and white lights illuminating the central round bar. Two sets of stairs on either side of the room lead to a small chill-out area upstairs - tastefully appointed with a few comfy couches, a large screen and a waiters to serve you! A balcony hangs low over the bar and seats for a great view of the lamp and the lounge below. The DJ booth is built on the wall on one side - about the size of church pulpit - smart and chic. A gorgeous elliptical bar in the centre of the room was serving the thirsty crowd, although the bar staff seemed a bit stressed out in there - it was hard to get a smile out of them!
The new lounge, decorated in a New York style, is dark and sexy and will certainly make you feel like a VIP. It was a great place to spend our Pride night, entertained as we were by special guest DJ Wayne G and with live PA from Kathy Brown.
