As a Supermartxe virgin all I had to go on tonight was what people had told me about it... and it was going to be tough for the night to live up to the stories I'd been told...
Not wanting to miss any of it, we'd arrived fairly early - but even before the main dancefloor was packed out (which happened pretty quickly), the bar area was buzzing with people and making new friends didn't take long at all.
The venue itself is extremely cool... a repurposed theatre, with a huge auditorium serving as the main dancefloor, a stage (which was put to excellent use after about 1am), a second little dance area, enough bar space to mean that there wasn't ever much of a wait, and lots of nooks and crannies for chatting, smoking or chilling out.
Supermartxe is known not only for its careful choice of DJs (the music was superb... we found it impossible to drag ourselves off the dancefloor before the last track played at around 7am), but possibly mostly remembered for its fantastic stage shows. Tonight's theme 'under the sea' leant itself to a very cool stage set of swirly sea, some huge hanging jellyfish and some really amazing costumes for the dancers - all designed especially for the show. Pyrotechnics, confetti, bubbles and great lighting all added to the party atmosphere.
Loved every minute of it.
