Sunday night and City of Quebec was buzzing. The legendary pub haunt in Marble Arch brought Bournemouth’s own diva Diane James to wow us all with her fabulous range of songs! It was my first time at the Quebec but some of the regulars have been drinking here for thirty years and it seems that much of the gay community in London has spent an evening or two here at some point. Indeed, The City Of Quebec can lay claim to being the oldest gay bar in London.
Sundays are very popular and today the fabulous Diane James delivered a sing-a-long round with favourites from Bacharach to famous soundtracks and a whole host of 60s singers – making for a saucy night of ribaldry. With a very loyal and regular following, this pub’s a stalwart of the Mayfair scene, whose history is a poignant reminder that we still aren’t free from prejudice.
Even if musical numbers or ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ aren’t your bag, do pop in and check out their Sunday cabaret nights.
